GE - True Digital Technology - Cordless Phone

GE 21900FE1 TRUE DIGITAL CORDLESS PHONE SYSTEM (WITHOUT ANSWERING SYSTEM)
Customer Review: A Very Nice Phone, But No Lighted Keypad
I am very satisfied with this product, although I was disappointed to discover three things about it: 1. It doesn't have a lighted dial. The image in the ad created the impression, for me, that the dial was lighted. I should have thought to look more closely. Not lighted dial can be more inconvenient than one would imagine; although, of course, there is always putting on a light or bringing the cordless handset to a more lighted area. (Once someone is accustomed to the phone's keypad a lighted dial may not be all that crucial.) 2. The phone is described as "black" in the ad. While the front of the phone is black, the back (and part of the sides) of it is charcoal gray. 3. Also, because I couldn't see a picture of it from all sides, I assumed it was a straight, flat, candy-bar phone. The top section of the back of the phone is tapered in toward the top. The design is an ergonomic-appearing one. A side view shows that it is narrower at the top and then slopes outward, so the bottom portion is thicker. (It resembles a shoe horn.) The phone works well and has all the basic features that most phones these days have. It was nothing to set it up. It came all registered. I happen to have also purchased a second handset, which also works well and was equally effortless to set up. The black front of the phone is a high-gloss black, so it looks attractive, sitting on my desk. I chose this phone for it's very reasonable price and it's simple, elegant, appearance. I don't care for the common "high-tech" look of many of today's phones. This handset's attractiveness, to me, makes up for the non-lighted dial. I've anticipated a possible need for a third handset, and I've asked myself whether I'd buy a whole new phone system or just add a third handset to this phone. I'd be more than comfortable adding a third handset.
Customer Review: Missing headset jack
I bought this phone sight unseen because I love my old GE phone and this phone seemed to have the features I wanted. It turns out that this phone is missing a headset jack so it cannot be used with a headset. This seems like a major flaw to me and is a basic requirement that almost all phones have so I cannot give it a high rating, particularly since my older model GE phone did have a jack.

A redial button lets you easily call one of the last three outgoing numbers, while both tone and pulse dialing modes are provided in case you need to switch to one or the other.

With the auto-talk feature turned on, you can answer calls simply by removing the phone from its cradle, and the flash/talk button lets you switch to an incoming call (requires subscription to a fee-based service) and put the current conversation on hold. A handset-to-handset call transfer function is provided, as is a memory location transfer feature. With four-way conferencing (two handsets plus base plus outside call), multiple users can easily converse, and the intercom feature lets you communicate with another handset location.

The digital answering system features full remote operation, allowing you to check messages while away from the home or office. Voice prompts help guide you through setup, while play/stop, skip, delete, and repeat keys help you navigate through your messages. A memo record feature is provided, and the conversation record feature lets you record important conversations or information such as driving directions.

Twenty distinctive ringer options are provided, and a visual voice mail indicator on the base lets you know when you have message waiting. Wall mountable, the DCT 648-2 also comes with both a handset and base speakerphone. This refurbished model is backed by a 90-day warranty.
